متن کاملIntrauterine Zika virus infection of pregnant immunocompetent mice models transplacental transmission and adverse perinatal outcomes
Zika virus (ZIKV) crosses the placenta and causes congenital disease. Here we develop an animal model utilizing direct ZIKV inoculation into the uterine wall of pregnant, immunocompetent mice to evaluate transplacental transmission. Intrauterine inoculation at embryonic day (E) 10, but not E14, with African, Asian or American strains of ZIKV reduces fetal viability and increases infection of pl...
متن کاملRecent developments in vertical transmission of ZIKA virus
Recently Zika virus (ZIKV) has been the focus of much attention, primarily because of its association with an increased incidence in microcephaly. Although ZIKV was initially discovered in a sentinel rhesus monkey in Uganda [1], its range includes Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. Much of the recent concern regarding ZIKV arises from a dramatic rise in microcephaly that has been report...
متن کاملVertical Transmission of Zika Virus in Aedes aegypti Mosquitoes
Previous experimental studies have demonstrated that a number of mosquito-borne flavivirus pathogens are vertically transmitted in their insect vectors, providing a mechanism for these arboviruses to persist during adverse climatic conditions or in the absence of a susceptible vertebrate host. In this study, designed to test whether Zika virus (ZIKV) could be vertically transmitted, female Aede...
